--- Log opened Fri May 25 00:00:06 2018 --- Day changed Fri May 25 2018 00:00 < DeVito> But the wider point here is that "started off as a (lazy) hack" is a bit of a re-occurring theme 00:00 < DeVito> And if you somehow take that as an attack on the ecosystem, you might not know me too well ;) 00:01 < rhqq> yeah, but rules for makefiles are still more of suggestions 00:01 < rhqq> if you take two makefiles from two different bigger projects 00:01 < DeVito> So are RFCs :) 00:01 < rhqq> they 00:01 < DeVito> As we see time and again 00:01 < rhqq> they'll be very different 00:01 < rhqq> well, RFC stands for request for comments 00:02 < DeVito> I'm well aware what it stands for 00:02 < rhqq> it's the spirit of the documentation 00:02 < DeVito> And I'm equally aware that, for all that, many of them are designed specifically to establish standards 00:02 < rhqq> "we kinda want it this way, but give us your input" 00:03 < DeVito> The whole approval track into becoming a draft and then standard is part of the RFC system, and yet you'll notice some very interesting interpretations from the major players 00:03 < rhqq> true 00:04 < DeVito> More importantly, though 00:05 < DeVito> It's 5pm and there are field techs in my office building still 00:05 < rhqq> its midnight here ;-) 00:05 < DeVito> I need to find out why they're polluting my lovely empty hallway 00:05 < DeVito> Because I'm overdue for taking a random chair from the callcenter and proceeding to spin down that entire hallway in it 00:11 < insecurity> a computer got me 00:11 < DeVito> Good 00:42 < Stoob> I'm loving how many privacy policy updates are coming in today 00:44 < rpifan> hi 00:46 <+TuxedoJack> "He's a doctor in his 30s who specializes in medical education, and he can't figure out how to go through the iPhone Exchange setup wizard. God help us if he ever tries to teach anything else." 00:46 < rpifan> i dont undetstand iphones 00:46 < rpifan> like i dont get it 00:46 < darkscrypt> o/ rpifan 00:46 <+TuxedoJack> What's not to get? 00:47 <+TuxedoJack> Dickwaving by Apple for retarded fanboys with money 00:47 <+TuxedoJack> And for sorority girls to get shitfaced and take duckface pictures out at bars 00:47 < rpifan> sup 00:47 < rpifan> well 00:47 < rpifan> btw my boss agree with me 00:47 < rpifan> about all the stuff i was talking about yesternight 00:55 < DeVito> Shame many nice phones in general are joining the absolutely insane pricings 00:55 < DeVito> I liked my OP3T, but the OP6 starts at, what, $550 now? I paid $340 for my last phone and even that was about my limit 00:56 < genr8_> my biggest gripe is no SD Card 00:56 <+NinjaStyle> iPhone for the most part is good 00:57 <+Hunterkll> ^ 00:57 <+Hunterkll> more secure than android tehse days 00:57 <+Hunterkll> more, far more, native code so it's far more fluid and faster on llower hardware 00:57 <+NinjaStyle> Android is native code too now 00:57 <+Hunterkll> not all of it 00:58 < DeVito> I liked my iPhone 6, but the screen was garbage 00:58 < DeVito> And then after about 2 years lightning port stopped charging it, couldn't get it working again, so grabbed cheapest okay-looking phone I found, hence this OP3T 00:58 < darkscrypt> NinjaStyle: https://www.penucopia.com/testing-inks-the-morriset-way/ 00:58 < DeVito> But now getting close to needing to upgrade again, or see if battery is replaceable somehow 00:59 <+NinjaStyle> darkscrypt: nice 01:00 < DeVito> I used an iphone x and liked it, but didn't like it enough to drop $1k+ on something I use to watch youtube and browse the internet on the shitter 01:00 <+Hunterkll> lol 01:00 <+Hunterkll> i bought an iphone X just because i wanted the watch 3 01:00 < darkscrypt> or play candy crush while driving. 01:00 <+Hunterkll> and didn't want to lilnk it to my work phone 01:01 < DeVito> Only thing I spend over $1k on for myself is camera gear, microphones, and (unfortunately) rent 01:01 <+NinjaStyle> Hunterkll: as of 4.4 01:01 <+Hunterkll> NinjaStyle, i know how ART works 01:02 <+NinjaStyle> Then you know it is native 01:02 <+Hunterkll> that's not exactly native code, it's just a different way of compilation of a GC'd bytecode language that uses VM techniques 01:02 < DeVito> The major thing I'd miss going back to iphones, though 01:02 <+Hunterkll> it's a step below objective-C 01:02 < DeVito> Is compiling my own modified kernels and feeling edgy 01:02 < DeVito> An incredibly important part of phone ownership 01:02 <+Hunterkll> lol 01:02 <+Hunterkll> yea that was cool 01:02 <+Hunterkll> when the HTC G1 was cool 01:03 < genr8_> LG G2 01:03 < DeVito> Nothing like browsing through nconfig deciding what random aspects to disable just so you can feel different 01:03 < DeVito> genr8_, was that before or after LG introduced that cool "Boot loop after 6 months" feature? 01:03 <+NinjaStyle> It's compiled to an elf basically Hunterkll 01:03 <+Hunterkll> yes 01:03 <+Hunterkll> it still has the java-style baggage with it 01:03 <+NinjaStyle> Not really 01:03 < genr8_> fake news 01:04 <+Hunterkll> so, in the strictest definition sure, it's 'native' 01:04 <+Hunterkll> but it stilll has all the features and facilities there 01:04 <+NinjaStyle> How so? 01:04 <+NinjaStyle> It's compiled to a native binary 01:04 < DeVito> So, what phone should I buy that has a battery life of like 20 hours of light to medium use, an OLED screen for muh pretty colours, and costs me under $400 ;_; 01:07 <+Hunterkll> NinjaStyle, ish. Android 7 added JIT to ART :P 01:07 < sadbox> DeVito: I have a coffee grinder w/ an OLED screen 01:07 < DeVito> Okay, but does it run unplugged, and can it make phone calls 01:07 <+Hunterkll> NinjaStyle, turns out the one shot compilation wasn't always the best, so they added a JIT with code profiling to analyze and re-optimize the resulting binaries 01:07 <+Hunterkll> 7 is a great improvement 01:08 < sadbox> DeVito: no, but it makes better coffee than a nexus 01:08 <+NinjaStyle> Hunterkll: even better 01:09 <+Hunterkll> but it's still, even the native binary, functioning as a register based VM system even though it's all executing natively 01:09 <+Hunterkll> it's limited by the confines of the language and spec, not the compiler 01:09 <+Hunterkll> oh, and it ballooned ram footprint & disk footprint 01:09 <+Hunterkll> 5.0 just was not ready for it 01:10 <+Hunterkll> i imagine that's where a lot of the mid-game "android is so laggy" came from too 01:10 < DeVito> Oreo runs very smoothly, that's nice at least 01:10 <+Hunterkll> eh 01:10 <+Hunterkll> 7 and 8 run fine on my devices, but i wouldn't say even close to iphone-like 01:10 <+Hunterkll> and that's a nexus 6 and galaxy s8+ 01:11 <+Hunterkll> not exactly low tier phones 01:11 < DeVito> I can't compare to newer iPhones 01:11 <+Hunterkll> though the windows phone is the best 01:11 < DeVito> But I've not noticed any real difference between this and my iPhone 6 01:11 <+Hunterkll> 950 XL spanks 'em all 01:11 < DeVito> I'm sure they've improved since then 01:11 <+Hunterkll> compared to my 6S the Galaxy S8+ sux 01:11 < DeVito> But that iphone 6 also cost slightly over twice what the OP3T did 01:11 <+Hunterkll> but still 01:11 < DeVito> So I don't think that's too unfair 01:11 <+Hunterkll> now i have a 7 and an X 01:12 < DeVito> All I know is, my chinese cartoons, youtube, and web browsing are at least as responsive as my limited interest in them 01:12 <+Hunterkll> NinjaStyle, ART did parallelize GC, which is kinda nice. but android developers are still retardedly lazy 01:12 < DeVito> And that's what counts(tm) 01:12 <+Hunterkll> for long duration used applications though full GC won't run 01:12 <+Hunterkll> which can actually cause progressive slowdowns 01:12 < DeVito> Looks like cheapest iphone still sold is at $700 01:13 <+Hunterkll> since it'll only run full GC when device is locked 01:13 < DeVito> So next phone will probably be some WAHWAY because they have mildly interesting cameras 01:13 <+Hunterkll> DeVito, eh? iPhone SE is like $349 01:13 < DeVito> Nowhere physical here carries them, though I'm sure I could find them on the internet 01:15 <+Hunterkll> 6S starts at like $449 tho from what i recall the SE is just a smaller 6S in a 5S casing 01:15 <+Hunterkll> wish they'd make a X class phone in a 5S case 01:15 < DeVito> Hm, that sounds smaller than I'd like 01:16 <+Hunterkll> 5S was best form factor after HTC G1 01:16 < DeVito> But I didn't list that spec in my original desires, so that's my bad 01:16 <+Hunterkll> which was best formfactor after HTC Herald 01:16 < DeVito> I do remember the 5C being a bit small for my hands 01:16 < DeVito> Was 5S same size? 01:16 <+Hunterkll> I don't know 01:16 <+Hunterkll> ? 01:16 <+Hunterkll> 5S was the first with the wrap around metal band 01:16 < DeVito> What's the point of this IRC channel if other people won't google things for me ;_; 01:16 * DeVito sighs and opens a browser 01:17 <+Hunterkll> 5S was my favorite iphone 01:17 <+Hunterkll> beyond the original and the 3GS 01:17 < DeVito> I just wasn't a big fan of the screen, on 6 at least 01:17 <+Hunterkll> https://www.gsmarena.com/htc_p4350-1781.php 01:17 <+Hunterkll> now this 01:17 <+Hunterkll> this was a phone! 01:17 < DeVito> If I ever typed on my phone, I might appreciate a physical keyboard 01:18 < DeVito> Though I had two slide keyboard phones back in the day 01:18 <+Hunterkll> I need to find a good flip keyboard case 01:18 < DeVito> And managed to utterly destroy both of them :( 01:18 <+Hunterkll> I still have my G2's carcass around here somewhere 01:18 < DeVito> "64MB RAM storage", eh, GSM arena? 01:19 <+Hunterkll> well 01:19 <+Hunterkll> 64MB RAM, 128MB FLASH on a 16 bit storage bus with a 201mhz CPU 01:19 <+Hunterkll> that STILL ran and felt better and more fluid than android 01:19 <+Hunterkll> It had MicroSD too 01:19 < DeVito> My point was more that they used "RAM storage" in the title art on the page 01:20 < DeVito> And then called it "ROM" a few lines down 01:20 <+Hunterkll> well yes 01:20 <+Hunterkll> back then we called it flashROM 01:20 <+Hunterkll> not flash 01:20 <+Hunterkll> not storage 01:20 <+Hunterkll> etc 01:20 <+Hunterkll> and you could divide the RAM into storage / app ram 01:20 < DeVito> Was it not writeable? 01:20 <+Hunterkll> so some could be used to install ram resident applications, but not be used for program execution 01:20 <+Hunterkll> some of it was 01:20 <+Hunterkll> but not all of it 01:20 <+Hunterkll> not all of the flash was writable 01:20 <+Hunterkll> but it was commonly referred to as flashrom 01:21 <+Hunterkll> even back in 2001 when i was dealing with ipaq 3850s and shit 01:21 < DeVito> So when it says "64 MB RAM, 128 MB ROM" does that mean 192MB total on the bus, 64MB writeable? 01:21 <+Hunterkll> no 01:21 < DeVito> Or how am I supposed to read it 01:21 <+Hunterkll> it means 64MB ram that could be possibly divided up 01:21 <+Hunterkll> and 128MB, which has a partition you can use, and the rest is the OS itself 01:21 <+Hunterkll> so you could have flash resident apps taht survived a total power lloss 01:21 <+Hunterkll> and ram resident ones that didn't 01:22 <+Hunterkll> so if you had a battery pull and didn't swap it fast enough that the caps ran down (it gave you like 10-15 seconds worth of buffer) you'd lose the RAM contents 01:22 <+Hunterkll> on the ram storage side, not the app ram side 01:22 <+Hunterkll> think of it like ... a vairable ram disk 01:22 <+Hunterkll> you can chew away from available free memory for executing programs to make ramdisk space 01:22 < DeVito> Yeah, I gleaned that from your follow-up description 01:22 < DeVito> Just not something I was familiar with 01:23 < DeVito> As none of my phones up until the iPhone 6 supported installing apps, or doing anything beyond using their built-in half-functional browser, calls, and SMS 01:23 <+Hunterkll> what? you never installled any of id software's j2me apps? :P 01:23 <+Hunterkll> http://www.mobygames.com/game/j2me/doom-rpg 01:24 <+Hunterkll> hell i had an ssh client on my RAZR 01:24 < DeVito> "Doom comes... as a first-person turn-based role playing game" 01:24 < DeVito> Lordy 01:24 <+Hunterkll> can you imagine doing shit on ssh with t9 texting? 01:24 < DeVito> Not particularly 01:24 < DeVito> I also didn't know what SSH was until around when I got said iphone 6 01:24 < DeVito> So I mean 01:24 <+Hunterkll> http://www.jcraft.com/jcterm/ 01:25 <+Hunterkll> "runs on JDK 1.3 or previous" 01:25 < DeVito> Since parents didn't let us have a computer at home, and I couldn't afford a phone immediately once I moved out 01:26 <+Hunterkll> hahahahaha 01:26 <+Hunterkll> https://mrtipale.wordpress.com/2009/02/03/ssh-on-mobile/ 01:26 <+Hunterkll> ^--- 209 post about some of it 01:26 <+Hunterkll> look at them tiny terminals 01:26 <+Hunterkll> Only you need is Gprs connectivity to download and connect the server. App has nice functionality like macro, store session, font change. 01:26 <+Hunterkll> GPRS ! 01:26 <+Hunterkll> ahahhah 01:27 < DeVito> The garbled phrasing here makes me so happy 01:28 <+Hunterkll> DeVito, http://www.zgroup-mobile.com/published/mobile_games_racing_01.html 01:29 <+Hunterkll> that's what you were missing out on 01:29 <+Hunterkll> on yo flip phone 01:29 < DeVito> I've never been a big fan of games on small screens, but you know, maybe it would have been fun at the time 01:29 <+Hunterkll> http://www.zgroup-mobile.com/published/mobile_games_shootemup_02.html 01:29 <+Hunterkll> awww yeaa shoot 'em up 01:43 < Casteil> nice.. my old work latitude (i5-6300U) laptop averages about 45-50 gflops, my desktop (i5-3570K) averages about 80 gflops, my new work laptop is about 120gflops 01:46 < rhqq> Casteil: you got new laptop already? 01:46 < Casteil> yep 01:46 < rhqq> awesome 01:46 < Casteil> dell's ETA was like early june 01:46 < rhqq> yeah i remember 01:46 < rhqq> thats why i asked 01:46 < rhqq> ;p 01:47 < Casteil> so far so good, none of the issues people have complained about with the last gen XPS 01:47 < rhqq> sweet 01:48 < rhqq> update me on battery life in like 7 months from now =] 01:48 < Casteil> :P 01:48 < Casteil> I nuked about 35% of it over the course of an hour while windows was updating and our endpoint backup software was doing its initial sync 01:52 < rhqq> it's first time in my life i used any of btrfs features 01:52 < rhqq> lets hope it was a good use, at least 01:57 < rhqq> we'll se in 5 minutes whether it was worth it 01:59 < SOLxCrono> i'm guessing there arew a fair amount of pc gamers in here. totalbiscuit just died 02:00 < rhqq> yea, its all over the reddit by now 02:00 < rhqq> i never heard of the guy, but im not a gamer really 02:16 < coderphive> this chan is so roudy 02:16 < coderphive> rowdy 02:16 < coderphive> w/e 02:24 < packeteer> hey all, any tips for web app / API testing? specific software etc 02:28 < nohusuro> packeteer: you'll want something like selenium for UI testing web apps 02:29 < rhqq> REEEEEEEEEEE 02:29 < rhqq> first issue in my life that i'm lost and out of ideas 02:29 < nohusuro> for testing your API, not sure of automated solutions that exist, but most people seem to talk about Postman when testing their API's though I think that may be manual testing. 02:33 < packeteer> yeah we use Postman for manual testing, and Selenium was my first suggestion, but apparently it's not what they want 02:35 * nohusuro shrugs 02:36 < nohusuro> I mean, Selenium is pretty much the industry standard for UI testing, so if that's not what they want. I don't have any suggestions. 02:43 < PrincessZoey> Legit crying over totalbiscuit 03:02 < technonerd> Me too 03:02 < rhqq> who was he, i mean 03:02 < rhqq> some reason he was any significant? 03:05 < packeteer> nohusuro: thanks anyway 03:05 < genr8_> he ran some gamer shit 03:07 < rhqq> like 95% of wnna be youtubers nowadays 03:08 <@JollyRgrs> who's biscuit? 03:08 < rhqq> yeah, my thoughts exactly 03:08 < genr8_> A british videogame broadcaster known for a deep cynical style who specialises in WoW, Starcraft and first impressions 03:09 < technonerd> Video game critic on YouTube 03:09 <@JollyRgrs> AND WHY IS HE BEING CRIED FOR? 03:09 <@JollyRgrs> oops on caps 03:10 < Tecuane> "guys im getting this error whats it mean?" 03:10 < genr8_> he had hundreds of thousands of fans 03:10 < Tecuane> "google it asshole" 03:10 < technonerd> He had problems in the past 03:10 < Tecuane> "crying over totalbiscuit" 03:10 < technonerd> And he's only 33 03:10 < Tecuane> "WHO IS THAT FEED ME INFO" 03:10 < Tecuane> the discrepancy really makes u think 03:11 <@JollyRgrs> technonerd: aaaannnnddd? 03:12 < technonerd> Popular well known person dies, fans get sad 03:12 <@JollyRgrs> oh, he died 03:12 < technonerd> Tldr 03:12 <@JollyRgrs> no one said that 03:12 < technonerd> Just a minor detail 03:12 < Tecuane> shoutout to big G(oogle) for filling me in on the information that JollyRgrs couldnt get 03:13 < Tecuane> mad appreciation for search engines tbh 03:13 < technonerd> Or. However, I'm basically the ISSM, ISSO, SA, NA, etc. for the system and it has taken waaaay too much time. 03:27 < corn266> We had a meeting with our DSS rep tomorrow to look over the paperwork and system, but she canceled because I didn't have enough paperwork filled out. 03:27 < DeVito> Why dualboot instead of two laptops if it's this much hassle? 03:27 < corn266> BECAUSE MANGALMENT 03:27 < lineman60> corn266 feds? I'm sorry ya that sucks 03:28 < corn266> Also when the management had to clear a laptop they didn't have the RMF system, which begun right as I began the project 03:29 < corn266> So management assumed a 20 question worksheet and then classified system, but now it's 80 hours for a seasoned rep 03:29 < DeVito> Contract me on, I'd even go as low as $20/hr 03:29 < corn266> Do you have a clearance? 03:29 < DeVito> I can say I do with a straight face 03:30 < DeVito> And I once was in a govt building 03:30 < DeVito> Close enough 03:30 < corn266> hmmmm 03:30 < corn266> alright meet me at 123 abc street tomorrow and we can work out the details 03:30 < DeVito> Deal 03:30 < MillerBOSS> Is that under the Oak tree? 03:30 < MillerBOSS> Or by the bike rack? 03:30 < corn266> It's next to the oak tree 03:30 < DeVito> Send all payment to DeVito's Estate, Islamabad, Pakistan 03:31 < DeVito> Unmarked non-sequential twenty dollar bills 03:31 < lineman60> the hot blond western eroupean woman right 03:31 < corn266> actually sorry DeVito I don't think any lammas are bad 03:31 < DeVito> Crap 03:31 < DeVito> This business relationship isn't going to work out 03:31 < corn266> you're fired 03:31 < DeVito> :( 03:31 < MillerBOSS> I blame cryptic1 03:31 < rhqq> ^^ 03:31 < rhqq> MillerBOSS: ++ 03:31 < corn266> MillerBOSS ++ 03:34 < nohusuro> Free game! https://www.humblebundle.com/store/hacknet-deluxe 03:35 < corn266> oh man maybe I can get past level 5 of CTF 03:36 < lineman60> https://itsfoss.com/hollywood-hacker-screen/ 03:37 < lineman60> is what you need 03:37 < corn266> woah so my boss is actually continually emailing me resources for the paperwork 03:38 < corn266> It's fucking 9:37pm here 03:38 < sideup66> wow 03:38 < enix> Man I'm reading through the reverse engineered assembly code for pokemon blue/red and I feel like I'd never understand all of this in a million years 03:38 < sideup66> so CheckYourSix i was looking at the freedom rewards, they are eh for redemption 03:38 < sideup66> didnt buy anything, just was messing around with it to see what the system looks like 03:39 <+CheckYourSix> Best bet is transferring them to partner programs for airlines and hotels 03:39 < sideup66> like 80k points is 80 bucks 03:40 <+CheckYourSix> That's what all cards are... 03:40 < enix> vihttps://github.com/pret/pokered 03:40 < sideup66> idk, i expected more lol 03:40 <+CheckYourSix> Unless they give you specific bonus things 03:40 < sideup66> either way i just put everything on it, let it pile up rewards points 03:41 <+CheckYourSix> That's what I do 03:43 < sideup66> i did tie it to amazon incase i wanna use it 03:43 < sideup66> though im not going to, and kinda tempted to take it off 03:43 < sideup66> because id rather pile it up for a trip or something vs something off amazon where i can use it to gain more 03:44 < corn266> Has anyone read "The Hacker Playbook 3" ? 04:54 < nojeffrey> https://www.itdevices.com.au/LTX2500G.php, it says: "LTO-6 Ultrium 250G / 6250 GB" 04:54 < nojeffrey> i don't know much about tape, is it 6.25TB capacity? 04:57 < nojeffrey> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_Tape-Open this says LTO-6 has a native/raw capacity of 2.5TB 04:57 <+NinjaStyle> 2.5 uncompressed 04:57 <+NinjaStyle> Iirc 04:58 < nojeffrey> don't know where that 6250GB number comes from then 05:00 <+NinjaStyle> That's the compressed number but your actual will likely be between the 2.5 and 6.25 05:01 < nojeffrey> k, ta 05:08 < rpifan> yall i need a way to save screenshots as part of a documentation effort to demo to the devops / sys people that we suck, what can i use to collect and sort the images 05:09 < MillerBOSS> getsharex 05:09 <+NinjaStyle> rpifan: onenote 05:10 < rpifan> atm everyone has access to the google tools 05:10 < rpifan> does google have anything like that 05:11 < MillerBOSS> Google Keep ? 05:11 < rpifan> havent heard of it or tried 05:11 < rpifan> but sure 05:12 < rpifan> i had started a google doc but i was sure that would be the worst way 05:19 < enix> rpifan: greenshot 05:20 < enix> open in editor, edit, copy to clipboard, paste into confluence 05:20 < rpifan> well the problem is i except 30 or 40 images, lets say and the point is just to show that these are erros not really make confluence entries of them 05:21 < rpifan> unless there is some other feature 05:21 < enix> You're probably going about it the wrong way 05:21 < enix> If you're doing a document of "common errors you'll encounter" or a "catalogue of errors", the images should be put next to the description of the error and a way to find a resolution 05:23 < rpifan> well the idea is no one knows that these errors exist they are not documented at all and there is no solution, the devops dont know about the xistance hence why they told me show us that these things are happenig 05:28 <@JollyRgrs> so m4221 just decided not to come back, lol 05:28 < MillerBOSS> Yeah right 05:28 <@JollyRgrs> oh, he did and then left 05:29 <@JollyRgrs> rpifan: tbh, google docs should be plenty fine 05:29 < MillerBOSS> Way to go JollyRgrs 05:29 <@JollyRgrs> rpifan: you said 30-40 images for your documentation of the issues? 05:30 <@JollyRgrs> are these like... small snips of stuff or like large full size screenshots? 05:30 < rpifan> well thats part of what i need to define with the tech support ppl, cause they a little dull it might be a mix. 05:30 < rpifan> i need help with the confluence too 05:30 < rpifan> but thats later 05:31 <@JollyRgrs> so srsly, just make a word doc... split up the docs, 1 doc per set of instructions you are following (or writing down) 05:31 <@JollyRgrs> like "to repeat error 1, do steps 1-7" 05:31 <@JollyRgrs> then "to repeat error 2, do steps 1-5" in a new doc 05:32 < rpifan> yea i was thnkking that, but it has to be google sheets or w/e so everyone can contribute 05:32 < rpifan> or docs 05:32 < rpifan> or w/e its called 05:32 <@JollyRgrs> well, which one? 05:32 <@JollyRgrs> sheets is excel, docs is word 05:32 <@JollyRgrs> and like i said... google docs 05:32 <@JollyRgrs> i mean, you could do sheets, but taht'd be a PITA to edit/type 05:32 < rpifan> docs 05:32 < rpifan> that one 05:32 < rpifan> i got confuesed 05:33 <@JollyRgrs> it's no diff than word as far as you will be concerned 05:33 < rpifan> yea 05:41 < rpifan> what does a product manager do 05:43 <@JollyRgrs> manager of the product? 05:43 <@JollyRgrs> prob varies greatly from company to company 05:43 <@JollyRgrs> but they'd be the manager of the product... so all the goings on about it, they'd be the manager over 05:44 < rpifan> but is it a technical position 05:44 <@JollyRgrs> it's uh... kinda in the name i guess 05:44 < rpifan> or an admin thing 05:44 <@JollyRgrs> what is the last word in the title? 05:44 <@JollyRgrs> and tbh, depending on the product, nothing on the team might be technical, or it might be VERY techincal 05:45 <@JollyRgrs> if your product is Service Now and you are manager of it... it means you manage the people/teams that keep it working, that update it, the people that might use it... i dunno 05:45 < rpifan> hm 05:45 <@JollyRgrs> but i'd say much more an admin thing as in paperwork/meetings administration... not sysadmin work 05:45 <@JollyRgrs> but again... if you are product manager of kubernetes 05:45 <@JollyRgrs> maybe it will be 05:45 <@JollyRgrs> it's VERY vague 05:46 < rpifan> aka meh 05:46 < rpifan> move on 05:47 <@JollyRgrs> it would not be a job i would go after 05:47 <@JollyRgrs> especially so early in your career 05:48 <@JollyRgrs> unless you want to REALLY REALLY REALLY be IT mgmt 05:48 <@JollyRgrs> if that's your goal and position of nirvana, go for it 05:48 <@JollyRgrs> and may God have mercy on your soul 05:48 < rpifan> nop 05:49 <@JollyRgrs> time for some shut eye 05:51 < rpifan> no 05:51 < rpifan> its nly 12 05:55 < darkscrypt> rpifan for docs use greenshot 05:55 < darkscrypt> love that program for writing quick documentation and stuff. The log file outputs 4 specific lines, we'll call them output0-3, they appear in no specific order and sometimes there's a 5th line that appears at a random interval. I need to make something that can read the lines and say "yes, output0-3 is present" 10:08 < Phendrana> or if not, tell me what line isn't 10:08 < Phendrana> and yes, python is available. 10:09 < nohusuro> so the individual output is specific? it doesn't change? 10:09 < MillerBOSS> Located here https://www.google.com/maps/place/Vikings+Luxury+Buffet,+SM+Mall+of+Asia/@14.5405784,120.9768842,17z/ 10:09 < Phendrana> Yeah, doesn't change 10:09 < Phendrana> so ideally it'd look for the 0-3 lines, ignore line 5 10:10 < nohusuro> ok, and now, what are you trying to achieve by doing that? 10:10 < Phendrana> and then flag up if anything else is not those things 10:10 < plop> lol MillerBOSS 10:10 < Phendrana> I was going to then have the output generated by the script created to read them, get read by zabbix and report if everything is okay 10:10 < plop> MillerBOSS, looks amazong 10:10 < Phendrana> or if not, trigger a warning/email infrastructure etc. 10:10 < MillerBOSS> Yeah it is 10:11 < plop> so, i'm pretty exited to go to el celler. 10:11 < MillerBOSS> Thats looks like a drive too for you 10:11 < MillerBOSS> Looking at Google Maps 10:11 < plop> its at 30km from where i live 10:12 < nohusuro> Phendrana: you could put the specific lines you're expecting in another text file 10:12 < nohusuro> then use grep to intersect 10:13 < Phendrana> I'll pull an example of the output. 10:13 < nohusuro> probably helpful 10:13 < Phendrana> OH 10:13 < Phendrana> I just noticed 10:13 < Phendrana> it is always in the same order; I must have been looking at it funny. 10:14 < nohusuro> then you could just use diff 10:14 < Phendrana> yeah, it's became a lot easier now. 10:16 < Phendrana> https://paste.ee/p/jtSpv 10:16 < Phendrana> there's the output anyway 10:18 < MillerBOSS> Wow people are dumb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67_7ajL9dY8 10:27 < ihre> plop: one thing about michelin stars: the more stars, the smaller the dishes seem to get :P 10:44 < Phendrana> okay I still don't actually have an idea on how to do what I need to achieve. 10:44 < LegalDrokz|PI> a problem we al face and need to overcome to grow 10:45 < Phendrana> I need it to read the lines 4 at a time. 10:45 < Phendrana> and I'm not sed/awk expert. 10:45 < Phendrana> no* 10:45 < LegalDrokz|PI> yer a wizard phen, you can do it 10:45 < Phendrana> psh 10:46 < LegalDrokz|PI> https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11560544/how-to-process-every-other-line-in-bash 10:47 < LegalDrokz|PI> or maybe regular expressions? 10:48 < plop> ihre, true lol 10:48 < LegalDrokz|PI> you could start by writing the steps needed in psuedo code...\ 10:50 < Phendrana> got uh 10:51 < Phendrana> tail -6 log.log | grep -A 5 "extranet/3/in" 10:51 < Phendrana> KINDA works. 10:51 < Phendrana> actually, no it doesn't. 10:52 < Reverend> sup nerds 10:59 < FenJai> Morning Reverend 11:00 < Reverend> hows it going FenJai? 11:00 < FenJai> Not bad. Change my mind. 16:26 < darkscrypt> apparently 16:26 < ebol4> hella 16:26 < LegalDrokz|PI> imagine she had a phone 16:26 <@cryptic1> Code_Man65, yeah about that going to need you to come in on monday anyways 16:26 < Hatter> are there any fun video games to play this weekend? 16:26 < darkscrypt> these kids were like 8 and 9 16:26 <@cryptic1> need those tps reports done by tuesday Code_Man65 16:26 < ebol4> Hatter: bunch on free weekend on steam 16:26 < int0x1C8> oh cool we're getting brats delivered from bratfest 16:27 < LegalDrokz|PI> then it's ok darkscrypt :) 16:27 < ebol4> int0x1C8: jelly as heck 16:27 < Hatter> ebol4: I'm not some cheapskate 16:27 < Heresiarch> Hatter: Battletech 16:27 < estranger> backups have historical data, RAID1 has no history. 16:27 < Hatter> Heresiarch: oh I've been on the fence about that one 16:28 < Heresiarch> Hatter: jump off. It's probably the closest we'll ever get to a video-game version of battletech tabletop. 16:28 < LegalDrokz|PI> AnimalFarmPig: definition of backup "a copy of a file or other item of data made in case the original is lost or damaged." 16:28 < LegalDrokz|PI> so by your idea, looking in the mirror is the same as taking a picture 16:28 < Hatter> Heresiarch: well I've always liked the battletech/mechwarrior games, but I've never played any of the tabletop stuff 16:28 < LegalDrokz|PI> wait, i can counter my own argument 16:28 < AnimalFarmPig> LegalDrokz|PI: what if you take a picture ever second? 16:28 < LegalDrokz|PI> if you keep standing in front of the mirror, it's actually the same as a picture 16:29 < LegalDrokz|PI> fuck 16:29 < AnimalFarmPig> if you take pictures frequently enough, it's like a mirror 16:29 < syere> what if you have a smart mirror with a camera? 16:29 <@Code_Man65> I already told you cryptic1, those reports were on your desk but you were so drunk on maple syrup you thought they were waffles and ate them. 16:29 < AnimalFarmPig> estranger: (don't ruin my fun with your history thing) 16:30 < LegalDrokz|PI> okay how about you stand in front of the mirror 16:30 < LegalDrokz|PI> then shave your left eye brow 16:30 < LegalDrokz|PI> how can you restore your left eye brow after? 16:30 < AnimalFarmPig> although, RAID1 with a file system that does snapshots should satisfy the history portion 16:30 < syere> eyebrow marker? 16:30 < LegalDrokz|PI> syere: genius 16:30 < estranger> that is still sketchy, and is also against your original premise. so we win. 16:30 < syere> girls do it all the time.... 16:31 < ebol4> you can get eyebrows tattooed on 16:31 < AnimalFarmPig> you're being dogmatic 16:31 < ebol4> do dogs have eyebrows 16:31 < syere> yes 16:31 < AnimalFarmPig> is there some minimum backup interval before backups stop being backups? 16:31 < ebol4> nice 16:31 < darkscrypt> int0x1C8: what's the significance of your name? some x86 instruction? 16:32 < syere> they turn gray as they get older if they are a darker haired doggo 16:32 < ebol4> my man.... there is an "n" in his name 16:32 < ebol4> and a t 16:32 < AnimalFarmPig> like, if you backup once a day, it's a backup, but if you backup once an hour it's a mirror? 16:32 < LegalDrokz|PI> my mate has a cat, his mum cut the whiskers to 1 inch, it looked hilarious 16:32 < syere> that poor cat 16:32 < darkscrypt> ebol4: talking to me? yeah i'm talking about the 0x part 16:32 < syere> they need whiskers for balancing and knowing what they can fit in 16:32 < ebol4> i .... don't think you're supposed to cut the whiskers 16:32 < LegalDrokz|PI> he seemed pretty happy about his dapper appearance 16:33 < LegalDrokz|PI> and he kept getting stuck 16:33 < darkscrypt> LegalDrokz|PI: if you cut a cat's whiskers, they get stuck 16:33 < darkscrypt> yeah 16:33 < ebol4> darkscrypt: if you're being serious, it's intoxicate 16:33 < LegalDrokz|PI> like how do you think you will fit in that, cat 16:33 < LegalDrokz|PI> cat says, whiskers check out, hold my milk 16:33 < sideup66> You know how to crash a cat 16:33 < syere> cause his whiskers told him so! 16:33 < ebol4> darkscrypt: i can read it because we are 1337 name brothers 16:33 < darkscrypt> ebol4: i don't know how i missed that 16:33 < sideup66> You put something on it's nose 16:34 < Humpaxx> Hello again 16:34 < sideup66> Cat.exe freezes from unexpected input 16:34 < AnimalFarmPig> of course, once a day or once and hour might be too often for certain data, while it might be dangerously long for certain other data. The easy solution is to just send diffs of any file changes to another location as they happen. 16:34 < ebol4> darkscrypt: my name is not simply ebol four, it is a word 16:34 < darkscrypt> ebol4: i was converting it to decimal and then looking up for x86 instruction sets to see what it did 16:34 < darkscrypt> you are ebola 16:34 < AnimalFarmPig> gee... that sounds a lot like RAID 1 16:34 < corn266> https://pastebin.com/LPzUjG5X 16:34 < AnimalFarmPig> especially when used with a CoW file system 16:34 < darkscrypt> copy on win 16:35 < LegalDrokz|PI> btw i think i fixed the RAID == backup issue 16:35 < JFDkthx> ur a fukkin cowfs 16:35 < ebol4> you can just pull one of the hard drives out of the RAID1 array once per day and slip in a new hard drive and rebuild the array 16:35 < ebol4> boom remote backup 16:35 < LegalDrokz|PI> what if you take out half of the disks 16:35 < darkscrypt> cow-ffs. cow for fuks sake 16:35 < LegalDrokz|PI> and put in new disks and rebuild 16:35 < corn266> ebol4: I don't think that works but I don't know enough about panty raids to refute your point 16:35 < LegalDrokz|PI> then those disks you pulled are a backup, right??? 16:35 < Heresiarch> ebol4: /r/holdmybeer 16:35 < darkscrypt> /r/stoppedworking 16:36 < JFDkthx> /r/nonono 16:36 < darkscrypt> https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/8lwaxf/free_boops/ 16:36 < LegalDrokz|PI> /r/wheredidthesodago 16:37 < LegalDrokz|PI> /r/restofthefuckingowl 16:37 < darkscrypt> https://www.reddit.com/r/nonononoyes/ 16:37 < LegalDrokz|PI> those are my favorites 16:37 < darkscrypt> i love no no no no yes 16:38 < darkscrypt> https://i.redd.it/mx5hsu8n8vz01.gif <--- iis application pool has gone offline 16:38 < LegalDrokz|PI> haha darkscrypt iis 16:38 < ebol4> /r/densegifs is a recent favorite of mine 16:39 < Humpaxx> Hm 16:39 < Humpaxx> Dell EMC called about some kind of lottery that my boss won 16:39 < felda> anyone use portableapps on a flash drive before? 16:39 < felda> I remember using it a bit when I was in College 16:39 < darkscrypt> felda: yes. i used it a lot before 16:39 < corn266> I mean yea felda if you count notepad++ portable edition 16:40 < ebol4> Humpaxx: did they ask for his social security number 16:40 < LegalDrokz|PI> https://gfycat.com/FineAridGecko he seems so happy about crashing the boat 16:42 < LegalDrokz|PI> btw the thing about cats getting stuck with no whiskers or too short ones, is false 16:43 < LegalDrokz|PI> i dont know how you thought it was true, but it isn't 16:44 < estranger> LegalDrokz|PI, wtf is going on in that gif 16:44 < LegalDrokz|PI> the guy dodges on boat, is meh about it, then he gets rammed by another, and he's super happy about it happening 16:45 < LegalDrokz|PI> and he catches a mast with his face 16:45 < estranger> i dunno if that is a happy smile 16:45 < estranger> i smile when I concentrate 16:45 < Humpaxx> ebol4: no just his phonenumber so i gave them his real ext# 16:45 < LegalDrokz|PI> estranger: you never smile? 16:45 < estranger> actually I get yelled at for smiling too much 16:46 < LegalDrokz|PI> is it a friendly or creepy smile 16:46 < LegalDrokz|PI> asking for a friend 16:46 < estranger> super friendly 16:46 < LegalDrokz|PI> hmm yahh 16:46 < estranger> im supposed to build tension in the room sometimes, but my face is too disarming 16:46 < estranger> i got perfect teeth, why wouldnt i want to smile all the time? 16:47 < estranger> :D 16:47 < Hatter> braggart 16:47 < LegalDrokz|PI> hatter has yellow teeth 16:48 < Hatter> no I don't 16:48 < Hatter> but I do have a fang 16:48 < LegalDrokz|PI> only one? 16:48 < Hatter> yeah 16:48 < LegalDrokz|PI> are you self consicious about it? 16:48 < AnimalFarmPig> estranger: if you want to build tension but don't want to stop smiling, try throwing in a wink or two 16:49 < estranger> AnimalFarmPig, ;D 16:49 < LegalDrokz|PI> hehehe 16:49 < LegalDrokz|PI> :D ;) :D 16:49 < Hatter> no I kinda like it 16:49 < LegalDrokz|PI> no wait its :D ;D :D 16:49 < LegalDrokz|PI> keep the teeth up 16:49 < Heresiarch> Also depends on the smile. I like that, 17:15 < nurgle> they have it? 17:15 < Nightcinder> yeah 17:15 < nurgle> oof 17:15 < Nightcinder> and the amount of restrictions they put on her pc is hilarious 17:15 < cipher6> at least they know how to use gpo/restrictions? 17:15 < cipher6> right....? 17:16 < cipher6> c:\ ping 8.8.8.8 17:16 < nurgle> Nightcinder: well, you would think that it's probably due to case work right? 17:16 < cipher6> "Ping command restricted: Please contact your administrator." 17:16 < Nightcinder> nurgle: yeah in theory 17:17 < Nightcinder> first company i've seen to removed the ability to hit the spacebar/use mouse to get rid of the win10 splash screen 17:17 < Nightcinder> you have to ctrl-alt-delete to enter your password 17:17 < nurgle> i have that here. 17:17 < Nightcinder> but why 17:17 < R-TypeEman> we have that here 17:17 < cipher6> On another note, what do you guys pay for some cat6 drops? standard riser utp cable, <300m 17:17 < cipher6> like 200/drop? 17:17 < Nightcinder> i just don't see the purpose 17:17 < Nightcinder> dunno, we make maintenance run all the cat6, and they buy it too 17:17 < nurgle> Nightcinder: we have a requirement to acknowledge the terms of use of it systems 17:18 < nurgle> CAD to bring up prompt, click ok. then you can log in. 17:18 < R-TypeEman> 250 canadian for a duplex drop 17:18 < nurgle> it was the same way for w7 computers 17:18 < Humpaxx> cipher6: don´t want them using that ping ddos tools, you can push like 65kb/s per ping 17:18 < nurgle> and vister 17:18 < cipher6> R-TypeEman: duplex? As in two lines, one cube? 17:18 < nurgle> Humpaxx: dont packet of death me bro 17:18 < R-TypeEman> two cables, two keystones, one box, one faceplate 17:18 < cipher6> Humpaxx: EXACTLY! Dangerous stuff, they might attack 127.0.0.1 17:19 < cipher6> R-TypeEman: hmm...I quoted 150usd for 88 lines, but 44 are duplex, 17:19 < cipher6> wonder if I over-bid on this one, 17:19 < Heresiarch> cipher6: careful with that joke, it's an antique. 17:19 < Humpaxx> cipher6: Man 127.0.0.1 is wicked fast, i get >1ms when i ping it 17:19 < cipher6> we're usually running 1 or 2 drops, never bid on a call center new-build before 17:19 < R-TypeEman> we're government so everything is priced higher 17:19 < nurgle> VAR 17:19 < cipher6> what's usd to monopoly money right now? 17:20 < Humpaxx> cipher6: 3 fiddy 17:20 < nurgle> cipher6: i dunno bitcoin has been falling latel 17:20 < nurgle> y 17:20 < R-TypeEman> google says 196 usd -> 250 cad 17:20 < AnimalFarmPig> Nightcinder: ctrl+alt+delete and enter password is a reasonable security precaution, imo, but if they're doing that, then they're probably doing plenty of other unreasonable things 17:20 < Humpaxx> Well its 20 minutes past fuckoff o´clock so im out of here 17:20 < Nightcinder> well they have to comply with a bunch of stuff because case work 17:20 < Humpaxx> Laters! 17:21 < R-TypeEman> we have ctrl+alt+delete enabled becuase historically, the students have made fake login windows and shit to steal teachers creds 17:21 < nurgle> kek 17:21 < AnimalFarmPig> it's not that much extra work, and it protects you from that ^ 17:22 < Casteil> playing around with intel XTU and voltage offsets on this new i7-8750H 17:22 < Casteil> kinda neat how the thermals/fan interact with different settings 17:22 < genr8_> have you looked in the BIOS/ it should have a ton of weird stuff in it related to the Dynamic Thermal Platform or somethin 17:23 < Casteil> (i.e. "Quiet" mode will heavily thermal-throttle the cpu during sustained load, but allow it to peak for a short while) 17:25 < Casteil> genr8_: Intel XTU lets you control most if not all that stuff from Windows 17:26 < Casteil> so far pretty damn impressed with this XPS 9570 17:26 < Casteil> saw a bunch of tards complaining about how it "thermal throttles" .. no shit it thermal throttles, that's not a BAD thing 17:27 < nurgle> it is if you want MAXIMUM POWA 17:27 < Casteil> no 17:27 < nurgle> M A X I M U M S P E E D 17:27 < Casteil> it turbo boosts until it hits the thermal design temp 17:27 < nurgle> can it run crysis tho 17:28 < Casteil> then it 'throttles' to maintain peak performance without exceeding X temp 17:28 <@killdash9> let's bring back the Turbo button from 386 days 17:28 < Casteil> I'd wager it can 17:28 < cipher6> Just de lid the whole laptop, 17:28 < Casteil> it can run mad max @ 60fps apparently 17:28 < cipher6> take off the keyboard, 17:28 < nurgle> killdash9 ur the only one old enough. 17:28 < cipher6> hook it to an external keyboard/mouse, 17:28 < cipher6> and store the mobo in oil. 17:28 < cipher6> it'll never throttle again 17:28 < nurgle> cipher6: better yet, mount it in a case with proper fans 17:29 < genr8_> Casteil: how much was it 17:29 < abakedapplepie> i miss my turbo button 17:29 < nurgle> remove all the soldered parts put them on their own pcbs 17:29 < nurgle> cool those tooo 17:29 < cipher6> Ooh, they should make laptops with bigger boxes, that had fans, and all the components were separate of each other, 17:29 < nurgle> I JUST SAID THAT 17:29 < cipher6> nurgle: man that sounds great 17:29 < nurgle> fukin dolt 17:29 < Casteil> so my old 6300U laptop averaged about 50gflops in LinX, my personal desktop at home with an i5-3570K at home is about 80, this XPS laptop is coming in around 120-130gflops 17:29 < cipher6> lol 17:29 <@killdash9> abakedapplepie: now, what did the turbo button actually do? 17:29 < genr8_> turbo'ed 17:29 < Casteil> genr8_: The config I asked for was around $1550 17:29 < corn266> restricted the cpu 17:30 < Casteil> 8750H + 16GB + 256GB SSD... the config I got was more like $2200 or something.. my boss threw in 4K and a 512GB SSD 17:30 < abakedapplepie> it was for backwards compatibility 17:30 < R-TypeEman> turrrrbo button depends on the motherboard, some actually screwed with the cpu clock, others just enabled wait states to make shit slower 17:30 < abakedapplepie> it wasnt even actually a turbo button 17:30 < abakedapplepie> if anything it was a brake pedal 17:30 < nurgle> Sousapro: you still thinking about getting a propper AIO? 17:31 < Nightcinder> my computer is an xps 15 at work 17:31 <@killdash9> abakedapplepie: right. but why would you want to restrict CPU speed? 17:31 < Nightcinder> 16gb 512 4k touch 17:31 < nurgle> Sousapro: i switched out the fans that came with mine to corsair ml 120s. and i am now seeing a legit 20c difference. 17:31 < genr8_> base model is where its at 17:31 < Casteil> Nightcinder: hehe, so we're very similar :P 17:31 < abakedapplepie> because some idiot 30 years ago decided using the chip speed for timing was a smart idea 17:31 < Nightcinder> Casteil: i really really need to re-image mine 17:31 < Casteil> I just have a newer gen8 hexacore beastmode 17:31 < Nightcinder> yeah mines last years model 17:31 < Nightcinder> i'm considering a 15 2 in 1 for home 17:31 <@killdash9> 4.77Mhz is all you'll ever need 17:32 < Casteil> I've undervolted the cpu by 0.125v and it seems to be responding well so far 17:32 < abakedapplepie> lol 17:32 < corn266> ^^ 17:32 < Nightcinder> i dunno what i wanna do for home 17:32 < Nightcinder> i don't really *need* a laptop for home 17:32 < Casteil> lower voltage = better thermal headroom for throttling algorithms 17:32 < Nightcinder> one of those detachable chromebook tablets would be good 17:32 < nurgle> Nightcinder: get an intel nuc 17:32 < genr8_> yeah get a detachable tablet 17:32 < Nightcinder> nurgle: i have a desktop 17:32 < Nightcinder> and a shield tv 17:32 < nurgle> put yoonix on it. 17:32 < Nightcinder> nuc wouldn't serve a purpose 17:32 < nurgle> sure it would 17:32 < Nightcinder> i have a work iPad but a detachable chromebook would be more useful 17:32 < nurgle> have it stream to your shield. 17:32 < Nightcinder> full chrome + android apps 17:33 < Nightcinder> nurgle: ...but why would i do that 17:33 < nurgle> fine put chromeos on the nuc 17:33 < nurgle> even better 17:33 < Casteil> I don't really care for touch on a laptop tbh 17:33 < Nightcinder> it's ok 17:33 < Nightcinder> i barely use it 17:33 < Casteil> and I have a "2 in 1" lenovo yoga 17:33 < Nightcinder> i'd use the touch in convertible mode 17:33 < Casteil> never really got much out of the "2 in 1" functionality 17:33 < genr8_> I got one of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/Insignia-Flex-2-in-1-Tablet-NS-P11W7100-11-6-32GB-Windows-10-With-Keyboard/263710151393 17:33 < Nightcinder> not in laptop mode 17:33 < genr8_> its $65 and its great 17:33 < FenJai> https://i.imgur.com/YCNvEMa.png 17:33 < abakedapplepie> my wife has a yoga 2 pro 17:33 < genr8_> dont laugh 17:33 < abakedapplepie> it has never been used in tablet mode 17:33 < Casteil> plus the way it flips over.. the keyboard is exposed and it's kind of annoying 17:33 < abakedapplepie> lol 17:34 < Nightcinder> i don't want windows tablet i don't think 17:34 < Nightcinder> though maybe the new cheap surface will do what i want 17:34 < Nightcinder> i gave my old sp4 to my mom 17:34 < nurgle> ha 17:34 < abakedapplepie> its a neat device though 17:34 < corn266> but that ARM 17:34 < Casteil> man, bumping the voltage offset down by 0.125V gives a pretty significant performance benefit for this 8750H 17:34 < Nightcinder> seriously i just want something i can cast to my TV, control smarthome stuff, and is light 17:34 < Casteil> probably 10-20% depending on the situation 17:34 < genr8_> they have an android version of that same one i linked 17:34 < Nightcinder> and has a keyboard so i can play on discord/irc 17:34 < nurgle> Nightcinder: get any old chromebook then 17:34 < abakedapplepie> Nightcinder: i have an apple tv for that 17:34 < abakedapplepie> :P 17:35 < Nightcinder> nurgle: thinking the chromebook tablets would be nice for that tho 17:35 < Nightcinder> just waiting on more to come out 17:35 < Nightcinder> like a dell 17:35 < genr8_> you start looking at things and then you never get one 17:35 < genr8_> might as well just spend $60 and get one 17:35 < nurgle> with a detachbale kb maybe 17:35 < Nightcinder> yeah that's what i mean 17:35 < Nightcinder> acer just made a detachable kb chromebook 17:35 < Nightcinder> so did hp 17:35 < nurgle> i can never convince my self to buy that stuff though 17:35 < nurgle> i look at it then think. nah i wont ever use it anyway 17:35 < Nightcinder> https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/4/9/17208064/hp-chromebook-x2-chrome-os-tablet-detachable-keyboard-stylus 17:36 < Nightcinder> $599 too much tho 17:36 < abakedapplepie> geez 17:36 < Nightcinder> $399 i'd be interested 17:36 < abakedapplepie> $599 for a chromebook 17:36 < genr8_> thats what im talking about... now you go from $60 to $600 17:36 < nurgle> 600 chromebook 17:36 < nurgle> jeez 17:36 < Nightcinder> but when you compare it to the ipad pro price yeah it makes sense 17:36 < genr8_> stop lookin and just get the $60 one 17:36 < Nightcinder> genr8_: that wouldn't do anything i want it to do 17:36 < Nightcinder> i'm not 'looking' seriously 17:36 < genr8_> get a $60 one that would 17:36 < Nightcinder> i have an ipad that does the job for now 17:36 < Nightcinder> but it wouldn't 17:37 < Nightcinder> i do think if that hp chromebook was $399 it'd be a pretty solid deal 17:37 < nurgle> yeah 17:37 < Nightcinder> good competitor for the $329 ipad 17:37 < genr8_> thats not happening 17:37 < nurgle> i have a work laptop that i never use as it is 17:38 < nurgle> i cant justify buying a laptop 17:38 < genr8_> its a contentious market. they want you to be spending $600-$800 for something that should be like $200 max 17:38 < Nightcinder> chromebook tab 10 is $329 17:38 < nurgle> of any sort 17:38 < Nightcinder> acer 17:38 < Nightcinder> was suppose dto release in april 17:39 < Nightcinder> http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7016367&SRCCODE=3WCJ&utm_source=cj&utm_content=8731916&utm_term=12637418 17:39 < Nightcinder> is v close to what i want 17:39 < Nightcinder> now make it 12" with a keyboard 17:40 < nurgle> Two armed gae Ops kill felda who opened pfsense in Online Chatroom 17:40 < cipher6> (Anyone else got a different price on cable drops for cat6?) 17:40 < genr8_> between Chrome OS, Android and Windows 10, i'd rather have Windows 10 17:40 < nurgle> abakedapplepie 17:40 < abakedapplepie> nurgle 17:40 < int0x1C8> fuck I am so bored 17:40 < int0x1C8> there's nothing to do 17:40 < cipher6> genr8_: I've seen a few Chrome OS w/ the dev options so i could have an actual Terminal and it wasn't awful 17:41 < nurgle> you can just enable that 17:41 < Nightcinder> genr8_: sure for normal use yes 17:41 < abakedapplepie> cipher6: i had one recently for $350 17:41 < Nightcinder> for what i want chromeOS + Android apps = more useful 17:41 < abakedapplepie> but that was 300 feet 17:41 < abakedapplepie> duplex 17:41 < abakedapplepie> and in a factory 17:41 < abakedapplepie> so considerably more effort than a normal drop 17:42 < Nightcinder> lol 17:42 < Nightcinder> i had to do a factory drop at my last company 17:42 < Nightcinder> was told 'do it yourself' 17:42 < Nightcinder> D: 17:42 < genr8_> the keyboard is the hardest part 17:42 < abakedapplepie> ive done tons :| 17:42 < genr8_> sometimes you end up having to buy a whole different machine just for a good keyboard 17:42 < abakedapplepie> i wired a ~1m sqft factory for wifi and various other stuff 17:43 < Nightcinder> apparently the chromebook tab 10 is super popular and acer can't make enough 17:43 < ebol4> i.... hate managers 17:43 < ebol4> just call them meeting notes 17:43 < nurgle> holy shit "Jury rules security company must pay $1 billion to Georgia woman raped by guard they hired" 17:43 < ebol4> why we call them meeting minutes 17:43 < abakedapplepie> nurgle: saw that 17:43 < abakedapplepie> seems a bit much 17:43 < nurgle> i would eat a dick in the ass for a million 17:43 < nurgle> and be happy about it 17:44 < nurgle> hell for a billion i guess i could make myself unhappy 17:44 < nurgle> /r/imgoingtohellforthis 17:44 < genr8_> We have homes that are 150+ years old and have OLD wiring, we make most our money running cat6 so these guys can get above 10mbps lol 17:53 < abakedapplepie> I HATE KEYSTONES 17:53 < cipher6> i <3 keystones, 17:53 < abakedapplepie> MY THUMBS 17:53 < abakedapplepie> MY POOR THUMBS 17:53 < cipher6> but only b/c they're cheap, and I pay a guy to do em, 17:54 < cipher6> also, try wearing thimbles? 17:54 < abakedapplepie> thats not a bad idea 17:54 < nurgle> thimbles are for bimbos 17:54 < nurgle> js 17:54 < abakedapplepie> i also didnt have a proper punchdown tool 17:55 < abakedapplepie> but they also didnt run the new drops that we asked for, they ran some and left them in the ceiling, others werent there at all 17:55 < abakedapplepie> i basically had to audit everything 17:55 < felda> you guys ever used SUMo or DUMo? 17:56 < ebol4> no and i never will 17:56 < felda> no? 17:56 < ebol4> no 17:56 < felda> that's oftly racist of you 17:57 < ebol4> i'm sorry but i just can't 17:57 < felda> TRY 17:57 < felda> open your heart 17:57 < felda> it can update software and drivers for you 17:57 < ebol4> i don't use "software" 17:59 < abakedapplepie> i dont know what those things are 17:59 < ebol4> i control my computer with a logitech usb racing wheel which needs no drives because i AM the driver 17:59 < Casteil> mmmm 17:59 < cipher6> abakedapplepie: so you can get paid for pretending to run wires... hmm... 17:59 < abakedapplepie> cipher6: apparently 17:59 < Casteil> -0.125 v offset on my cpu put me nearly 10% higher than the average 8750H on passmark :D 17:59 < abakedapplepie> i never did ask my customer how much that job was billed for 18:00 < ebol4> Casteil: you undervolted and overclocked? 18:00 < abakedapplepie> that was knoxville though, im not familiar with where chattanooga is in relation to knoxville 18:00 < cipher6> new business model, couple of bank accounts in the caymans, some On-the-shelf companies in delaware and we could pretend to wire this whole state! 18:00 < Casteil> ebol4: just undervolted.. turbo and thermal management does the rest 18:00 < cipher6> Chattanooga is directly south, 18:00 < ebol4> oh okay 18:00 < cipher6> Chattanooga literally butts up against georgia and alabama, if you're good on your geography 18:00 < abakedapplepie> i can only assume they were probably the only outfit in knoxville too, cant imagine theres much there 18:01 < Casteil> I do notice also that in "Quiet" profile, the 0.125v undervolting gives me about a 30% boost in sustained processing power 18:01 < Casteil> ~70 gflops to ~90 gflops 18:01 < Casteil> so that's pretty sweet too, should also help with battery life 18:01 < cipher6> talked to a guy who does nashville/knoxville quite often before doing this bid, he said he'd shoot for 150-350 depending on the job, 18:01 < ebol4> johnny nashville 18:01 < cipher6> but he travels all over the state, is in the midst of doing the Titans stadium right now for 115 coax drops, 18:02 < cipher6> Unless that's you.... < DomLS3> you got google'd son 19:26 < sideup66> And I thought it would load only the image in a separate link 19:26 < rhqq> to get right uri 19:26 < sideup66> And google gives me some damn bullshit 19:26 < sideup66> Second like I posted was right 19:26 < abakedapplepie> thats why i "open image in new tab" then copy the url 19:26 < rhqq> sideup66: yes, you need to do it twice to get correct uri 19:26 < sideup66> abakedapplepie: that's exactly what I did. 19:26 < abakedapplepie> usually also because the images in a google image link are cached google images 19:26 < rhqq> this is fucked up fo exchange online...they very likely can use exchange on-prem 19:30 < admiralspark> oh 19:30 < admiralspark> god 19:30 < Heresiarch> yes? 19:31 < admiralspark> you mean they have cloud-hosted only 19:31 < admiralspark> nvm 19:31 < Hempux> admiralspark, yes no on-prem stuff 19:32 < admiralspark> interesting. Do you vpn to Azure? 19:32 < admiralspark> we're looking at moving to hosted exchange Soon™ 19:39 < DomLS3> you got google'd son 19:41 <@ravioli> gmail > exchange 19:41 < rhqq> yeah 19:41 < rhqq> unfortunately 19:41 < rhqq> google beats them all 19:42 <@ravioli> i spend zero hours a week working on our email service 19:42 < DomLS3> You'd spend 0 hours a week working on Exchange if it's setup properly 19:42 < rhqq> yeah, inital setup 19:42 < rhqq> google suite is like 10 minutes 19:42 < admiralspark> ravioli: we have regulatory requirements that make Gmail a no-go :( 19:43 < admiralspark> I don;'t know how they thing Azure is gonna be "better" though but not my job 19:43 < DomLS3> If exchange is setup properly then there's nothing you need to do. It only fucks up when you let it fuck up 19:43 < admiralspark> well, I guess it's my job to tell them no 19:43 < admiralspark> DomLS3: the spam filtering is the hard part :P 19:43 < DomLS3> admiralspark: people actually use exchange's built in spam filtering? lol 19:44 < rhqq> isnt gsuite pci compliant? 19:44 < DomLS3> I've never used it. I always use 3rd party like GFI or barracuda 19:44 < admiralspark> DomLS3: nooooooooo 19:44 < DomLS3> yesssssssssss 19:44 < DomLS3> barracuda is awesome 19:44 < admiralspark> I just mean Gmail's product for filtering is superior to Azure/365's 19:44 < admiralspark> we use a third party 19:46 < admiralspark> rhqq: I think it is. PCI isn't my problem though 19:47 <@ravioli> what about PCIe 19:47 < DomLS3> Gencade: i fuckin told you 19:47 < DomLS3> #donger is the biggest piece of shit rigged ass thing out there 19:47 <@ravioli> you're now #2 19:47 <@ravioli> btw 19:47 < DomLS3> because rigged 19:48 < rhqq> admiralspark: well, im curious what reqs are more restrictive than pcidss 19:49 < silentfury> rhqq: marvel/disney tier-0 19:49 < Heresiarch> rhqq: ITAR, usually. 19:49 < rhqq> hmm, google works with govt agensies 19:49 < rhqq> so itar doesnt look like an issue 19:50 < rhqq> marvel/desiney though is interesting, but then google wouldnt risk any "leaks" because legal depts of disney would smash google to the burnt ground 19:50 < rhqq> and to be fair, googles mail is pretty damn secure 19:51 < rhqq> however limited in some functionalities 19:54 < estranger> google sheets needs a Hide Slide option... i dont see it 19:55 < estranger> Marvel is the greatest purchase Disney ever made, business wise 19:55 < admiralspark> rhqq: we fall under a modified NERC-CIP. The burden of proof along with some....geolocation issues and the gmail-accesses-your-inboxes part make compliance insanely expensive 19:55 < estranger> forced their top competitor to have to cut them checks constantly 19:55 < admiralspark> Self-hosted is much easier for that 19:55 < admiralspark> We also have PCI-DSS but it doesn't touch our email system 19:56 < rhqq> admiralspark: if they ever leaked or admitted to do so, they'd be dead same day 19:56 < rhqq> they cant afford it 19:56 < estranger> oh god if email was in PCI scope 19:56 < admiralspark> thank you, third party outsourcer 19:56 < Hatter> 3 more hours of this 19:56 < admiralspark> rhqq: it's not whether they do leak, it's that they access and index the information. Which we can't have as we have enough issues with state actors on our borders 19:56 < rhqq> fun 19:57 < admiralspark> yeah.........thats one way to describe it 19:57 < silentfury> Marvel/Disney Tier-0 [star wars, avengers, etc.] is incredibly draconian 19:57 < admiralspark> I get to play with a lot of cool tech and have frequent visits from FERC when big players begin to move. So that's....exciting. But my life is basically paperwork and 10% of my time on a terminal generating more paperwork 19:58 < Hatter> did you guys see that patton oswalt extended bit from parks and rec where he talks about star wars and marvel and tying in the two universes 19:58 < rhqq> so you fall into the category of seeing terminals more often when paying for shit than at work 19:58 < Hatter> it's pretty good I guess 19:58 < Hatter> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BBhNkywMJY 19:59 <+NinjaStyle> happy GDPR day 19:59 < abakedapplepie> god hes such a nerd 19:59 < admiralspark> rhqq: hahaha....:'( 19:59 < admiralspark> NinjaStyle: is it though? 19:59 < admiralspark> Happy, I mean 19:59 <+NinjaStyle> idk but i have gotten like 500 emails with new privacy policies 20:00 <+NinjaStyle> Implementation date‎: ‎25 May 2018 20:00 <+AnonymooseWork> lol NinjaStyle 20:00 <+NinjaStyle> looks to be effective as of today 20:00 <+AnonymooseWork> yeah 20:00 < rhqq> yea 20:00 < estranger> DROP THE HAMMER 20:00 <+AnonymooseWork> banhammer 20:00 <+AnonymooseWork> should be interesting 20:02 < corn266> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K626gMvu2ds 20:08 < Hatter> corn266: no one listens to them anymore 20:14 < Alternity> i'm so bad at regex :( 20:14 < rhqq> haha 20:14 < rhqq> https://eu.usatoday.com/ 20:14 < rhqq> works for ue people 20:14 < Alternity> trying to extract domains from a bunch of email addresses in some logs 20:14 < rhqq> has same content, no ads 20:14 < abakedapplepie> ive had 1 gdpr email 20:14 < rhqq> :D 20:14 < abakedapplepie> its odd 20:14 < Alternity> apparently this is too difficult for me 20:14 < Nightcinder> i've had lots 20:14 < rhqq> i had over 30 20:14 < rhqq> in last hour 20:14 < rhqq> ... 20:14 < abakedapplepie> rhqq: that just redirects to 222. for me 20:14 < abakedapplepie> www.* 20:15 < rhqq> are you in ue ? 20:15 < Alternity> united emerates? 20:15 < rhqq> eu 20:15 < abakedapplepie> oh i tohught you said us not ue lol 20:15 < rhqq> whatever 20:15 < rhqq> xD 20:15 < rhqq> i always make this backwards, for whatever reason 20:17 < Nightcinder> i see at least 10 20:22 < corn266> Here Hatter this is a genre that the youngsters listen to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7K0pZ9tGi4 20:23 < Hatter> corn266: I don't listen to bad music ironically 20:24 < corn266> The last link wasn't about the music https://media.giphy.com/media/F9yAvk7Xpr0c/giphy.gif 20:25 < admiralspark> corn266: aren;t you like, 25 20:26 <+NinjaStyle> corn266: im gonna eat you 20:27 < corn266> ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) 20:27 < admiralspark> mmmm cob 20:27 < admiralspark> woah 20:27 < admiralspark> weird 20:27 < admiralspark> my term shit itself 20:27 < rhqq> shat* 20:27 <+NinjaStyle> shitted 20:27 < admiralspark> shart? 20:28 < Hatter> is logstash still a good idea for elastic/kibana these days 20:28 < rhqq> https://i.imgur.com/IK1M8r8.jpg shitten 20:28 <+NinjaStyle> why do people live in places like atlanta 20:28 < Hatter> NinjaStyle: they have a nice aquarium 20:28 <+NinjaStyle> is that all? 20:29 < rhqq> NinjaStyle: because they dont want to deal with you 20:29 <+NinjaStyle> i dont live in most places 20:29 < rhqq> but atlanta is known to be safe 20:30 <+NinjaStyle> im going there next week 20:30 < Hatter> NinjaStyle: it's one of the only two in the world to have a whale shark exibit, the other is in Japan 20:30 < Hatter> exhibit I mean 20:30 <+NinjaStyle> xibit 20:30 <+NinjaStyle> xzibit 20:31 < Hatter> what is that a rapper 20:31 < Hatter> if they don't learn how to spell properly how do they ever expect to get a real job 20:31 < Hatter> oh shit was that racist? 20:31 <+NinjaStyle> yes 20:31 < Hatter> sorry about that 20:31 <+NinjaStyle> once u asked it became racist 20:32 < DomLS3> Hatter: No you're not 20:32 < DomLS3> Deep down you're the biggest racist in here and just try to put on a front 20:32 < abakedapplepie> omg that kitty 20:32 < DomLS3> Other than that guy with klansmen in his name wherever he went 20:32 < abakedapplepie> ive never seen a cat with fur like that 20:32 <+NinjaStyle> abakedapplepie: *shitty 20:38 <+Hunterkll> w00t 20:38 <+Hunterkll> another CC paid off 20:39 < Holo> another? 20:39 < Holo> what do you have left? 20 more? 20:39 <+Hunterkll> nah 20:40 < corn266> Isn't water just the greatest? I don't think it gets the praise it deserves 20:41 < ebol4> you know what's better than water 20:41 < ebol4> pretty much everything 20:41 <+Hunterkll> good thing you said pretty much 20:41 <+Hunterkll> because i was going to ask about your average daily semen consumption 20:41 < corn266> As 60% water I take partial offense to that 20:41 < ebol4> this guy doesn't take his daily semen shot 20:41 <+NinjaStyle> i am 100% water 20:42 < corn266> The chosen one! 20:42 < admiralspark> Hatter: logstash: yes 20:42 < admiralspark> but tbh Graylog meets the needs for actual centralized logging 20:42 < admiralspark> I've only been using ELK for specialised data visualization 20:42 <+NinjaStyle> graylog is definitely easier to get up and running too 20:43 <+NinjaStyle> but kibana is dope af 20:43 < admiralspark> ^^ this x1000 20:43 < admiralspark> both of those 20:43 <+NinjaStyle> :) 20:43 < admiralspark> Graylog's kibana is like...v3 I think. 5.6 and 6.x are awesomesauce. But a metric shitton of work to set up 20:43 < admiralspark> Grafana seems nice 20:43 < Hatter> kibana is really easy to setup these days 20:44 <+NinjaStyle> i had a lot of little gotchas when i was doing it 20:44 <+NinjaStyle> but i am also not a smart man 20:44 < Hatter> yeah I might not be that far yet 20:44 < ebol4> do people actually read the logs in graylog or do you just set it up 20:44 < Hatter> ebol4: I just show it to auditors once a year and say "yeah we're doing that" 20:44 <+NinjaStyle> ebol4: if nothing else it is useful in DFIR situations 20:44 < admiralspark> ebol4: I have filtering, automated alerting, I even trigger some ansible jobs based on logs in graylog and API calls. 20:45 < admiralspark> forensics it's awesome too, yep 20:45 <+NinjaStyle> i would def set up some alerts like x user authed more x amount of times in x timeframe though 20:45 < admiralspark> but...it's my job to do that so 20:45 <+NinjaStyle> or high amount of failed auths as well 20:46 <+NinjaStyle> stuff like that is easy even with default windows logging 20:46 <+NinjaStyle> if you wanna go HAM set up sysmon tho 20:46 < rhqq> speaking of which, i need to configure some centralized syslog 20:46 < admiralspark> what NinjaStyle said. User account access, if you have something like a CDE for PCI look for unauthorized attempts, track all domain admin everything everywheres in case one gets compromised, etc 20:46 < admiralspark> A cool one I started doing was auditd logs, so I can know when an app triggers an selinux hit 20:47 < admiralspark> because fuck me I hate troubleshooting something for hours before I remember to manually check the auditd log 20:48 < pcspkr> domain admin should be blocked from being used on anything except DC's, problem solved 20:49 <+NinjaStyle> yeah, principle of least privilege will save your ass more than anything else 20:49 < ebol4> then what do you do if you need admin access on a user's computer? 20:49 <+NinjaStyle> local admin account 20:49 < Casteil> lol. 20:49 < Hatter> why does go ham mean go crazy 20:49 < ebol4> (i'm not a windows admin) 20:49 < pcspkr> what NinjaStyle is official microsoft guidance 20:49 < Hatter> oh maybe from hog wild 20:49 <+NinjaStyle> Hatter: its from a kanye and jay-z song 20:49 < Casteil> "These employees aren't in the system yet! Can you add them NOW?! IT'S A REALLY BUSY WEEKEND" 20:49 < Hatter> is that the connection? 20:49 <+Hunterkll> admiralspark, pffft just run everything thru audit2allow have a nice day 20:49 < Hatter> ewww 20:50 <+Hunterkll> ebol4, you'd have 4 levels of privlege 20:50 < ebol4> Hatter: it means hard as a motherfucker 20:50 < Casteil> Hmm maybe you should've mentioned to someone you were hiring them when they were hired?? 20:50 <+NinjaStyle> hard as a motherfucker 20:50 < ebol4> hog wild is a good explanation though 20:50 <+Hunterkll> ebol4, Domain Admin (can change group policy and modify active directory objects hardcore, basically god in the network and can modify anything), Server Admin, Workstation Admin, and regular User accounts 20:50 <+Hunterkll> Think of domain admin as say, your super duper user on satellite taht can fuck everything up on your entire server fleet 20:51 <+Hunterkll> server admin as your sudo / su user 20:51 <+Hunterkll> workstation admin as your sudo / su user on local workstation 20:51 <+Hunterkll> and regular user as your login account 20:51 <+NinjaStyle> yeah its like becoming a god in order to open a door 20:51 < ebol4> so would you just have a single domain admin account for the entire domain, and then individual server admin accounts for sysadmins? 20:51 <+NinjaStyle> like, just be the guy with the key 20:51 <+Hunterkll> ebol4, no no 20:51 < Casteil> god damn I have a supremely low tolerance for ignorance today 20:52 <+Hunterkll> each DA has their own account 20:52 <+Hunterkll> and only DAs can log into domain controllers 20:52 < Guest82824> hey dudes does anyone know if you set up mariadb to use ssl will it be required or optional? 20:52 < DomLS3> DA gets cryptolocker and infects every device on the network 20:52 < ebol4> oh you just don't use that account to log in to other machines 20:52 <+Hunterkll> DOMAIN\Administrator (the default DA) is kept in a highly secured storage for emergency usage only 20:52 < rhqq> optional 20:52 <+Hunterkll> ebol4, right, if i log into a server with DA credentials, and that server gets compromised, then it's EZ MODE to compromise the entire network 20:52 < Guest82824> rhqq: thank you! 20:52 <+Hunterkll> then i can just pop into a DC and do whatever the fuck i want 20:53 < ebol4> so each sysadmin would actually have 4 separate accounts, like ebol_da, ebol_sa, ebol_wa, and ebol 20:53 < admiralspark> Hunterkll: no, I do. But I forget to use audit2why and audit2allow. Also I like my selinux to be effective :P 20:53 <+Hunterkll> ebol4, correct 20:53 < ebol4> i see 20:53 <+Hunterkll> and say, ebol_wa would work on all workstations 20:53 <+Hunterkll> so any L2 tech can work on any workstation 20:54 <+NinjaStyle> there are a few ways you can handle privileged account management, but what Hunterkll suggests is pretty easy to implement and sane 20:54 <+Hunterkll> there's better ways 20:54 <+Hunterkll> but you're gonna fork over $ for it 20:54 <+NinjaStyle> and it will make you better than 90% of these rappers out there 20:54 <+Hunterkll> ^ 20:54 <+Hunterkll> I have like 2309587230958230932 accounts 20:54 <+Hunterkll> lol 20:54 <+Hunterkll> for work 20:54 <+Hunterkll> but we also have like 30 AD domains 20:54 <+NinjaStyle> damn' 20:54 <+Hunterkll> our firewalls have firewallls 20:55 <+Hunterkll> NinjaStyle, you'd fail to get lateral movement not because it wouldn't be somewaht easy, but because of how fucking convoluted shit is 20:55 <+Hunterkll> you'd get stuck in some network path that is supposed to work 20:55 <+Hunterkll> and works 25% of the time to the point where when we need it it's there 20:55 <+NinjaStyle> lol i hate that, when im just like damn i need some docs 20:55 <+Hunterkll> but then breaks constantly 20:55 <+Hunterkll> NinjaStyle, our docs are wrong 20:56 <+NinjaStyle> sometimes i stop trying to move laterally and just find network docs 20:56 <+NinjaStyle> well that sucks 20:56 <+Hunterkll> I one saw the pre-acquisition network diagram 20:56 <+Hunterkll> the top level 20:56 <+Hunterkll> WHY DO YOU NEED THAAAAT MANY SYMBOLLS JUST TO DETAIL NETWORK SEGMENTS 20:56 <+Hunterkll> not like 20:56 <+Hunterkll> not like offices and routers and shit 20:56 <+Hunterkll> just 20:56 <+Hunterkll> "THIS ENVIRONMENT CONNECTS TO THIS ONE VIA THIS " 20:56 <+Hunterkll> and now?! 20:56 <+Hunterkll> we have that entire fuckfest 20:57 <+Hunterkll> PLUUUS another 20k business unit's fuckfest! 20:57 <+NinjaStyle> fuck that 20:57 <+Hunterkll> shit, we're still not done cleaning up from the split and subsequent merger 20:57 <+Hunterkll> we have our new network from the old pre-acquistion company we were moving to 20:57 <+Hunterkll> then two company's networks 20:57 <+Hunterkll> then all the shards of 10 years of legacy 20:57 <+Hunterkll> make that probably 20 years of legacy 20:57 <+Hunterkll> NetWare 6 server appeared on a vuln scan once 20:57 <+Hunterkll> not even 6.5 20:57 <+NinjaStyle> M&A fucks people up every time 20:57 < estranger> wut 20:58 < estranger> isnt that like 20 years old 20:58 <+Hunterkll> 1999 CVEs 20:58 <+Hunterkll> :D 20:58 < estranger> yeah ha 20:58 <+Hunterkll> i'm like 20:58 <+Hunterkll> "this is actually secure because i can't find exploit code anymore" 20:58 < estranger> i was netware 4.1 certed in the freakin 90s 20:58 <+NinjaStyle> lol 20:58 <+Hunterkll> estranger, netware 6/6.5 could act as an AD DC 20:58 <+Hunterkll> :o 20:58 < estranger> [ROOT] is about all I remember 20:58 <+Hunterkll> lol 20:59 <+NinjaStyle> netware was decent for a while, before MS got most of its shit together 20:59 <+Hunterkll> NinjaStyle, there's still some stragglers from an acquisition in like, 2002 20:59 < estranger> and you could make a container, put a user in it, then setup the perms on that container so ONLY that user can see it. not even Admin can see it. 20:59 <+Hunterkll> 2004 20:59 <+Hunterkll> 2004 acquisition 20:59 < estranger> that may or may not be how I hid a hidden admin user in my HS's netware. 20:59 <+Hunterkll> I found an XP laptop that had 5 AD domains availlable for logon on it 20:59 <+Hunterkll> lol 20:59 <+Hunterkll> thankfully it was in storage and not in use 20:59 <+Hunterkll> but still 21:00 <+Hunterkll> NinjaStyle, A-KO deleted an object in AD when clleaning up after the first split off .... "WIN2KTEST" ... last used in 2007 21:00 <+NinjaStyle> my first IT job was in a novell environment 21:00 <+Hunterkll> he did this in 2015/2016 21:00 <+NinjaStyle> lol 21:00 <+Hunterkll> i'm more concerned by the fact that a Windows 2000 TEST machine lasted until 2007 21:00 <+Hunterkll> then i am by the machine object still being there 21:01 <+NinjaStyle> sometimes i miss being a sysadmin, then this channel helps me remember the horrors 21:01 < estranger> i dont miss it 21:01 < DomLS3> sysadmin is much better than helldesk 21:01 < estranger> not for one second 21:01 < rhqq> estranger: what do you do now 21:01 <+Hunterkll> i love it 21:01 <+Hunterkll> lol 21:01 <+Hunterkll> it's like legos to me 21:01 < rhqq> NinjaStyle: and you 21:01 <+Hunterkll> :D 21:02 < Astr0_Belt_> We still have a two Win2003 servers running prod right now. Are you spying on me? 23:27 < MillerBOSS> I will be working. 23:27 < admiralspark> Wait, I thought you're ahead of me in time zones 23:27 < admiralspark> haha 23:27 < MillerBOSS> And tooling around 23:27 < admiralspark> ahhh, well, it does make for quiet time to get work done 23:27 < MillerBOSS> CDT. Just woke up an hour ago 23:28 < admiralspark> right, so it's 430pm there 23:28 < admiralspark> whaaat 23:28 < admiralspark> you have crazy hours 23:28 < MillerBOSS> Correct. Sleep gets screwed up 23:28 < MillerBOSS> I just roll with it 23:28 < admiralspark> word. 23:29 < MillerBOSS> up 23:29 < admiralspark> :P 23:29 < alazare619> fina2getturntupdizweeken 23:30 < MillerBOSS> Spacebar broken? 23:30 < alazare619> nah 23:30 < alazare619> its fine 23:30 < MillerBOSS> Thats a relief 23:30 < admiralspark> alazare619: that's my plan. Doing a roadtrip and drinking for 3 days when I arrive 23:31 < admiralspark> scheduling internal scans to run while I'm out, hopefully it doesn't tip anything over 23:33 < admiralspark> also MillerBOSS that camera in the corner, can you turn it a bit to the left? 23:33 < admiralspark> ;) 23:33 < MillerBOSS> Sure 23:34 < admiralspark> woah no need to flip me off! 23:34 < MillerBOSS> Ha ha I actually did 23:34 < hello_kitty> I'm not sure if this is a sysadmin question exactly... but I periodically have to turn on 10-20 servers in a short period of time. These are websocket game servers (nginx+tsl+node+websocket) and they are being turned to help with an increase in traffic. As it stands currently I do this pretty manually via linode/ovh/vultr and I'm looking for ways do make this process faster/easier. Any general suggestions? 23:36 < admiralspark> haha 23:36 < hello_kitty> So far I end up adding some sort of dns record for each new server (so that the cert works), then I have a first time setup script that installs node, nginx, etc, then I have a upload and start the game script which I use both for turning on new servers and for patching existing servers. The upload+start script basically uploads and extracts a git archive, runs npm install, and then restarts the node services. 23:36 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: OH MAN 23:36 < admiralspark> since it's read-only Friday, lets chat 23:37 < admiralspark> so do you have any automation frameworks? 23:37 < admiralspark> puppet/chef/ansible? 23:37 < admiralspark> oh yeah 100% you can do that workflow in Ansible 23:37 < admiralspark> fo free 23:37 < admiralspark> I have a buddy who does that with Factorio and Minecraft servers 23:37 < admiralspark> one-line provisions everything 23:38 < MillerBOSS> Fucking Factorio 23:38 < hello_kitty> i basically have two glorified bash scripts, one for first time setup and one for update.. .i say glorified b/c they're not really bash, they're node-ssh scripts that run cli commands one at a time 23:38 < MillerBOSS> Total drug 23:38 < admiralspark> MillerBOSS: factorio is love, factorio is life 23:38 < admiralspark> I'm only 700hrs in rn 23:38 < MillerBOSS> I need to uninstall that game again 23:38 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: yep, you should look into ansible 23:38 < hello_kitty> is there a way around the uhm... adding dns records? or is that something ansible can do too 23:38 < MillerBOSS> abakedapplepie 👉 https://millerboss.com/x/Screen-Shot-2018-05-25-16-38-41-5m.png 23:38 < admiralspark> MillerBOSS: one does not simply uninstall Cracktorio 23:38 < MillerBOSS> admiralspark 👉 https://millerboss.com/x/Screen-Shot-2018-05-25-16-38-41-5m.png 23:39 < MillerBOSS> abakedapplepie 👉 Hi, wrong nick 23:39 < hello_kitty> things were.. much easier when i could just leave the servers as ip addresses, before they all had to be subdomain234.maindomain.com 23:39 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: you could do it with Ansible. Internal or external DNS? 23:39 < admiralspark> MillerBOSS: you are all I aspire to be 23:39 < admiralspark> god DAMN boy 23:40 < admiralspark> I was going to take a break at 1000 but I started hitting Rimworld hard at 700hrs in Factorio 23:40 < hello_kitty> admiralspark: If i'm adding dns records via linode/vultr/ovh control panels... is that... external? 23:40 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: I'm assuming public domain. How do you currently do it? 23:40 < admiralspark> oh 23:40 < admiralspark> one sec 23:41 < MillerBOSS> I just mad a map the first time that is huge and that sucked me in this last week 23:41 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: https://www.linode.com/community/questions/448/how-do-i-addupdate-linode-dns-manager-records-with-ansible 23:41 < admiralspark> looks manual (scripts) right now 23:41 < admiralspark> MillerBOSS: are you a RSO player? 23:42 < MillerBOSS> I don't know what that is 23:42 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: in Ansible, I'd have it trigger a python script or a bash script to do it. I'm a big fan of having a machine as it's provisioned do a "check in" to update DNS records but I don't know linode very well, or vultr or whatever 23:42 < admiralspark> MillerBOSS: resource spawn overhaul 23:43 < MillerBOSS> No idea 23:43 < admiralspark> aka wide distribution of resource 23:43 < admiralspark> wait 23:43 < admiralspark> you 23:43 < admiralspark> play with mods right 23:43 < MillerBOSS> Nope 23:43 < admiralspark> that's not....1700+ 23:43 < admiralspark> holy SHIT 23:43 < admiralspark> 1700hrs of normal gameplay? 23:43 < MillerBOSS> I play like 24 hours at time once and while 23:43 < admiralspark> :O 23:44 < admiralspark> truly I am a mortal among the gods 23:44 < MillerBOSS> Yes 23:44 < MillerBOSS> And that is with two years not touching it as well 23:44 < MillerBOSS> I am no pro though 23:44 < MillerBOSS> Its like Legos for me 23:44 < admiralspark> yeah, same, but. Damn 23:44 < admiralspark> I'd love to see some of those maps, that's nuts 23:45 < MillerBOSS> I still don't know the green and red wires though. Jay-Ros told me but I don't get it and haven't researched it yet 23:45 < admiralspark> I'm down to finishing games in ~20hrs now, havent built many megabases beyond a single rocket 23:45 < admiralspark> oh man, wires are awesome. I've built blueprints for switch-based alerting on resources running low and stuff 23:45 < MillerBOSS> I just made one map like I said all concrete. And ores at each corner. 23:45 < admiralspark> damn 23:45 < admiralspark> daaaaaaamn 23:46 < MillerBOSS> And I dumbed all the goodies on one side 23:46 < MillerBOSS> dumped* 23:46 < MillerBOSS> Got speed 12 for robots 23:46 < admiralspark> you must be using trains though right 23:46 < MillerBOSS> Yup 23:46 < admiralspark> not botting across that distance 23:46 < admiralspark> ah kk 23:47 < hello_kitty> admiralspark: so I'm looking at the newish linode api which has `create domain` and `create domain record` which im guessing is how i'd automate adding foo123.mydomain.com to the dns manager. Is stuff like this more automagic with a different webhost? 23:47 < MillerBOSS> Thats the fun part. Well they do go that far. 23:47 < admiralspark> I have a friend who goes hard like that, he's at 1400 I think, but he hasnt done trains yet. He build microbases that belt or bot back 23:48 < MillerBOSS> Its really nothing special https://millerboss.com/x/Screen-Shot-2018-05-25-16-48-38-pN.png 23:49 < MillerBOSS> And enemies are off 23:49 < MillerBOSS> What I need to do is learn to host or join someone's shit 23:51 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: hold on I got actual work,. brb 23:51 < MillerBOSS> Look at this shit admiralspark https://millerboss.com/x/Screen-Shot-2018-05-25-16-50-15-9P.png also I dumped these Market things and I have money but can't figure out what to do with em https://millerboss.com/x/Screen-Shot-2018-05-25-16-51-01-ve.png 23:52 < admiralspark> jesus fuck MillerBOSS the hell did you do 23:52 < admiralspark> I have no idea what those are 23:53 < admiralspark> havent played in like 20-30 updates 23:53 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: so, I think you're on the right path. Basically they've exposed an API you can put/get to and from 23:54 < admiralspark> and you need to build an interface (python requests lib and just a couple lines tbh) to push the name you want and the IP 23:54 < admiralspark> AWS, being bigger, has frameworks so you can add a "role" in ansible and it will automate making that interface for you 23:54 < admiralspark> I know for a fact most of them are just the requests lib making get/puts 23:55 < admiralspark> MillerBOSS: just looked it up, apparently it's unused if you're not a preorder-er 23:55 < admiralspark> it was for campaign maps 23:56 < admiralspark> hello_kitty: if I were you, I'd automate the provisioning even if you still have to manually do domains 23:56 < MillerBOSS> They are available in one of the campaigns that you are on a tiny island and need to remove the brick walls and make iron 23:56 < admiralspark> the way my buddy did it, he had each instance he spun up connect to and dump logs in a centralized server, and he had a script running every 5 minutes that would look for "new" servers and provision in DNS if found 23:57 < admiralspark> MillerBOSS: dang. Never did the campaigns 23:57 < admiralspark> sounds like you've been playing longer than I by a long shot 23:57 < MillerBOSS> And I need to uninstall the game 23:57 < admiralspark> I was a steam release player 23:57 < MillerBOSS> Else I will play non stop this weekend 23:57 < admiralspark> :P 23:58 < MillerBOSS> I bought the game I think 4 years ago then connected it to steam --- Log closed Sat May 26 00:00:33 2018
